As I posted about recently, there has been a rather significant lag between “Brotato” updates for PC and Console. Up to a year or two between when PC gets these DLC and/or updates, and when they show up on Consoles and Mobile. I specifically called out that PC players are currently enjoying the new “paws & Claws” update for the game, and (at the time of that article’s release) Console players were still awaiting the “New Dawn” update, which came out on PC roughly a year ago.
So you can imagine my surprise when I logged into my Xbox last Monday, and saw “Brotato” receiving the “New Dawn” update.
Evil Empire did say that “New Dawn” would be released on Consoles in the first quarter of 2026, which meant by the end of March, so seeing it arrive nearly a month prior to that deadline was a nice surprise. I’m used to companies missing their self-imposed launch dates, not hitting them early! So, bravo Evil Empire and Seaven Studios.
Good job! golf clap Good job!
So, with that said, let’s turn to the “Paws & Claws” update, shall we? IT seems the only somewhat “official” post regarding it for console I could find is here, and it doesn’t sound promising. Basically, they will tell us when the next update is coming for console, when they announce it is coming out on consoles.
In even shorter terms, you’ll get it when you get it.
But then again, that really shouldn’t surprise console players of “Brotato”, should it? They took two years to release the “Abyssal Terrors” DLC on the Nintendo Switch, five months to get “New Dawn” on all consoles, so they have a track record of focusing on PC releases, and putting updates out for consoles when they get around to it.
Again, updates for PC and consoles should be basically simultaneous. There is no reason that Seaven couldn’t work with Evil Empire to build their console ports alongside PC development of the game by Evil Empire. Even if said console port was made while alpha/beta testing for PC, and said port was released shortly after the PC release, that would certainly be better than the current situation.
If Evil Empire follows their current track, we might see “Paws & Claws” get released on Consoles sometime this Autumn, if we’re lucky. I’m just glad I went ahead and bought the Steam version, so I can enjoy the latest version, rather than sit back and continue to play the constantly out-of-date version on my Xbox.
I’m sure there are a lot of people who have held back from buying into the game on console, for this very reason. I know my wife won’t buy it for her Switch, because she wants the up-to-date game, not some constantly out-of-date version.
