Since we’re fully locked into the Spooky Season, let’s talk about some tabletop roleplaying games that are a great fit for Halloween one-shots or short campaigns. First up: Ten Candles.
So, what is “Ten Candles”? It is a game of Tragic Horror, where the world is always dark, and there are never any survivors. To play with almost zero preparation, best with a GameMaster and only a handful of players, by the light of ten tealights. As these candles slowly burn out, the p[layers come closer and closer to their eventual demise. Any characters left when the final candle burn out, finish that scene with a grisly end.
It’s not a game for the weak-hearted, nor for those who insist their character should survive. This is not survival horror, where the characters struggle against tremendous odds, but have a chance of winning. No, in “Ten Candles” you explore the horror of a slow descent towards inevitable death.
Let’s be honest, this game is a trip. Not everyone will enjoy it, but for those who can expand their minds and explore such a game, the rewards are plentiful and rich… especially if you are very much into the macabre.
Give. This. Game. A. Go!
