So the Oregon Renaissance Faire has been cancelled for 2021.
I should have known this would happen, to be honest. Despite a good portion of the population having been vaccinated against COVID-19, including My Lovely Bride™ and I, it simply hasn’t been enough. The virus keeps springing back up, hospitalizations are on the rise, and so large events like ORF simply have to be cancelled. For the safety of the community, there was simply no other option.
Now then, I know a lot of people are upset about this, and they want to throw around some blame. “WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS?!” they exclaim.
Well, let me tell you who is to blame: Anti-Mask and Anti-Vax people. It is just that simple.
As long as we have idiots refusing to get vaccinated, and refusing to wear masks in public (or wearing them wrong), this virus will continue to spread, and continue to kill people. I don’t care about your theories, your supposed ‘facts’, or your excuses. Wear a damn mask, properly, until you are fully vaccinated!
I’m sorry if this offends you, but I’m seriously tired of selfish people preventing everyone else from being able to return to our normal lives! This is exactly what you are doing when you don’t wear masks, or wear them improperly. This is exactly what you are doing when you refuse to get vaccinated.
I would wish that you get infected with the virus and get seriously ill, but that would only serve to have you spread the virus to others… many of whom might not survive it.
This isn’t just about a Renaissance Faire, folks, although I am quite irritated that it has been cancelled. This is about my abject frustration with the Anti-Mask and Anti-Vax community. Recently, I overheard someone saying that they wouldn’t be getting vaccinated, because “what happened to the Flu?”.
You know why flu deaths were down to around 2000 last year? Because a sizable amount of the population were wearing masks, thus it couldn’t spread. But even if flu deaths were incorrectly batched in with COVID deaths, that only reduces the C-19 deaths by about 35,000 (the annual average for flu deaths in the US).
This still leaves us with well over 500,000 deaths so far from COVID-19, you goddamn, smooth-brained, imbecile!
Alright, I will calm down about this now. Just know that the longer we have idiots running around refusing to wear masks properly, and not getting vaccinated, we will be stuck with this pandemic (and the restrictions that come with that). We will also not have Renaissance Faires, and for that, you Anti-Maskers and Anti-Vaxxers can kindly fuck off.
