So Beoulus (co-host of the “Pixels & Dice” Podcast) and I were talking recently, and he suggested that we do a new show. Specifically, he wants us to get a couple of other folk together, and record our tabletop roleplaying sessions for said new podcast.
Now then, while I like the idea, I have some concerns. First of all, this would mean making time for another roleplaying session each month, and it is already difficult enough to make time for our current group. Next there is the issue of editing and post-production, which usually takes me 15 to 30 minutes for each episode of our current podcast. If we’re going to do a roleplaying podcast, the shows would be much longer, I do suspect, which means much more editing and whatnot.
That all said, I’m willing to give it a shot. Currently I have Tenknife (My Lovely Brideā¢) confirmed to be a part of this show, and we’re hoping to get one or two more people involved. Both Beoulus and I want to keep the group of players small, and want people dedicated to showing up every single session, without fail. Luckily, I have a plan for if we are forced to record with only the three current cast members… Doing one-shot adventures!
Now then, we have decided that I will be the Game master for most of the shows, at least initially. Beoulus may take over here or there, but most likely I will be doing the lion’s share of time behind the GM Screen. This will also allow me to control and monitor the laptop I’ll be using to record this thing.
Beoulus and I are still discussing what game we’d like to play first (after the test run, that is), and odds are, it will be “Pugmire“. I am also thinking about trying some “Adventures in Middle Earth“, and running the always-excellent “Dresden Files RPG“, with the latter two possibly being one-shot adventures. As always, 5th edition “Dungeons & Dragons” is a strong possibility, as well.
But, here’s the thing: This will all take a lot of time and effort on my part, time I really don’t have, considering I sleep when everyone else is awake, and have commitments with Twitch every weekend. So the plan right now is to do a test recording, on June 23rd. I am running a one-shot adventure of D&D that day, so that Beoulus can try out a character he made, and to account for half of the players being unavailable for our usual monthly game. If all people present agree to this, we’ll give it a try, and see how it goes. Otherwise, we may just set this idea aside until another time, or we come up with other options.
Anyway, that’s what’s new. Don’t be surprised if we start publishing a second podcast here really damn soon!
