Okay, for our last “Spooky Season” post for 2026, may I present the action/conspiracy/investigation/cosmic horror game, “Secret World Legends“. Built off of the bones of the now-locked MMORPG, “The Secret World”, SWL is a fun romp in a world filled with cultists, mind-bending horrors, and conspiracies around every corner.

It is not a perfect game, mind you. Funcom has effectively been running SWL in Maintenance Mode for several years now, but even without new content, the community in this game has kept it alive. They run public events, and encourage people to get involved with the game as much as possible. In short, the community that was displaced from “The Secret World” (which died a death it absolutely did not deserve) came over to SWL, and have effectively carried it ever since.

Now then, with the bad out of the way, lets talk about the good parts of the game. While it is a bit old (launched in 2017, on the 5 year anniversary of the launch of TSW), the graphics aren’t horrible, and the gameplay is still great, especially if you’re into cooperative roleplaying games or massively multiplayer RPGs.

The gameplay is somewhere between “Guild Wars 2” and “Neverwinter”, if that gives you an idea of what we’re talking about. Only it’s a Urban Horror game in a modern setting, as opposed to classic fantasy. But anyway…

I know that “The Secret World” bombed on launch. Funcom launched it basically one month before “Guild Wars 2” came out, which killed any momentum the game had, before it could really get going. And then Funcom abandoning TSW for “Secret World Legends” after only five years was a huge kick in the guts to the loyal players TSW had. That all said, SWL is a fun game, and a good romp if you’re looking for a horror game to play this time of year… especially if you have a lot of time to play.

Let’s just say there is a LOT of content to explore in SWL, if you have the time to invest.
