Might be a bit of Overkill

So I have this new laptop, which I have been using for livestreaming, and playing “Starfield”, “Avowed”, and many other games on and off of stream. But that got me thinking: If it’ll crush “Starfield” and other modern games, what shenanigans could I do with emulating retro games on this rig?

So I’m going to try just that.

Now I’m sure I’m not the first, and certainly not the last, to try emulating retro games on a beefy modern computer. But here’s the thing: I used to be able to easily emulate retro games on my old laptop, which was rocking a GTX 1070 video card. Now I’m rocking an RTX 5050, which isn’t the top-end video card by any means, but it is way better than a 1070.

Just how many frames per second will this crank out? All of them?!

Look, I just want to play some classic games, especially the old “Pokemon” titles, because I’m a fan. Also, because back when I was doing this on my old laptop (with the 1070), Nintendo didn’t look so kindly on folks who streamed their games. Now, I understand that is less of an issue.

So if I can get OBS and Twitch to play nice with whatever emulator I end up using (I haven’t looked into the best options for me yet), then I might just start playing some old retro games on my stream again. But even if I can’t Livestream these games, I’ll certainly be playing them for my own enjoyment.
