Okay, so – as you may have noticed – the website has changed just a bit. Which is to say, all of the old content is, well… gone. Seven years of content, just gone.
Sort of, anyway.
So here’s what happened: WordPress – the software I use as a backend for this website – needed a major update to the version of PHP running even further in the background, because my installed version of PHP was a bit out-of-date. So I did the update, and afterwards… WP was broken. The website ran (mostly), but if I tried to log into the admin pages, it crashed.
In short, what content I had programmed in to already be released would still be published, but I couldn’t do anything else. Yeah, no bueno.
Anyway, I tried everything I could to fix the problem, and it just wasn’t to be. Scormey.com, as it had been since 2017, was unable to continue. So I thought about it, looked at some data I still had access to, and found that it was probably time for a change, anyway. The primary draw for the website was always the podcasts, and they were all done, with no one revisiting them anymore.
Note: I haven’t deleted the raw files for those podcasts, and am looking for a way to perhaps host them on another service in the future, but that is a project for a later time.
So, what does the future hold for this website? Well, I have an idea or two about that.
First of all, I now have three (yes, 3!) websites, being Scormey.com, Pthppt.com (my original site), and my all new TabletopTribe.org site. The last is currently being used as a news aggregator for TTRPG news, and has a forum for gaming discussions. I haven’t done much with it yet, but I do have plans for it. Pthppt.com is currently redirecting to TabletopTribe.org, because I have nothing else to post on it at this time.
So that leaves us with this site. I’ve previously used it as a blog, as a place to post videos and livestreams I had on Youtube and Twitch, and of course as a home for our many podcasts over the years. But now I have something else in mind. I still plan to post blogs here, and even gaming news, as I might need to, but the main focus will be my TTRPG projects.
You see, many, many years ago (mostly back in the 1990’s and early 2000’s), I used to design my own tabletop roleplaying games. Many were small, and just created for fun. A couple of others, though, I was much more serious about. I even self-published one of those games, but I never got it into stores.
So my plan for Scormey.com is now to be a home for my various TTRPGs. I’m planning to create digital versions of most of these games, in their original – and very flawed – versions, and post them on this site to be downloaded for free. Then I plan to work on my new TTRPG ideas, discuss them here – and likely post beta versions for free download – before dropping the finalized games on DriveThruRPG. Hell, I’ll drop my old, mostly shit games on DTRPG, too, but I’ll probably put them all up for free or Pay-What-You-Want, including the new ones.
Why give all of this away for free? Because this is my hobby, I don’t need to make a living off of my games. Also, most of them absolutely suck, although I seem to recall they were fun back in the day. If people throw a few bucks on DTRPG at the games I make, that’s cool, but I don’t expect anyone will.
Also, you can see that the background image on the site is currently built with AI. I have other art I plan to put up instead, but I needed a placeholder, and frankly, this is what I had on hand to use right now. Just saying.
