I can’t believe I’m actually suggesting this, but “The Thing” is a retro horror game that you absolutely should play this Spooky Season!

My first experience with this game was on the Playstation 2, way back in the early 2000’s. I am a huge fan of the horror classic film from John Carpenter, so of course I bought the video game… That was a mistake.

You see, this was the very early age of three-dimensional video games, and to say the controls were wonky would be an understatement. But the game did a really good job of expressing the paranoia, suspicion, and horror of the film, even if I really sucked at playing the actual game.

Now then, there is a remastered version of “The Thing” that came out in 2024, and while I haven’t played it, it is available for all major consoles, as well as PC. I may well pick this one up, since I enjoyed the original so much (despite not being very good at it, at all).

Anyway, “The Thing” gives you an excellent horror experience. It is claustrophobic, almost crushing in its paranoia and creeping dread. The creature could be anyone, and if you want to survive, you’d better be able to figure out who it has taken over, and out-think it before it gets you, too.

Good times.
