So I have been making content for my YouTube channel for a bit now, and overall I would say I’ve been having fun with this activity so far… but I’m starting to think it really isn’t worth it. No, really.

I believe I have been clear about this in the past: I have no illusions about my content creation, and never have. I have always known that my content is rather niche, and will not draw many, if any, fans. From the day I started my first website in 1997, I knew that few people would ever see it, let alone care about what I had to say. The same went for my many different blogs, webcomics, YouTube channels, podcasts, Livestreams, Actual Plays, and so forth.

I will always be a small voice speaking into a hurricane of other voices.

So what does that have to do with what I’ve been doing lately? Mostly it concerns my YouTube content. I’ve been creating videos for the channel every weekend, and putting out that content (currently) four days a week. At the start of January 2027, that will expand to five days a week, because I found that I was creating content too quickly, and wanted to slow down the pace a bit.

It. Didn’t. Work.

So now, by the time you’re reading this (assuming that anyone actually is) I have all of the video content for 2027 done and uploaded to YouTube, all five series in the can so to speak. That’s what… basically 16 months of content already up and ready to publish?

Now that’s rather pathetic in its own right, and speaks volumes as to how much I play video games, but let me tell you… it gets worse.

I’m already working on 2028. With more content that ever.

I need an Intervention.

So here’s what I’m doing to try to slow things down a bit: I’m changing my content in the following ways.

  1. First and foremost, I’m already working on a new, daily series for YT, starting January of 2028. I was looking to do a playthrough of “Elite: Dangerous”, but chose a different game instead.
  2. If that isn’t enough, my “Starfield” videos will then expand to seven days a week.
  3. And if that isn’t enough to slow down the pace of content creation (it won’t be), I’ll be also continue releasing weekly episodes of a currently-unannounced series, as well as my “Casual Sunday” series.
  4. If that doesn’t do it, well, maybe I need to just stop.

First things first, though… I’ll be working on my content for the unannounced daily series for a while, likely until I’ve built up a few months worth of content. Then I’ll add in the daily “Starfield” shows, then the weekend shows for a couple of months, and if I’m still not clawing back towards normalcy, I give up.

The main thing is to play a bunch – and I mean a bunch – of [Insert Game Here] over the next few months, and see if that helps reduce my pre-produced content. If I manage to get through at least half of 2028 before the end of 2026, well… I’m going to have to take more extreme measures (weekend content, etc).

Just so you know, I’ve considered a lot of games to be that first, daily show, starting in 2028. These are ones I have yet to exhibit on any of my current YT series:

  • Battletech
  • Champions Online
  • DC Universe Online
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Remastered)
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  • Elite: Dangerous
  • Fallout 4
  • Neverwinter
  • Star Trek Online
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic

Or I could use games that I have already showcased briefly on my YouTube channel, but not with a specific, dedicated series:

  • Grim Dawn
  • No Man’s Sky
  • Torchlight II

The point here is to play one game I really enjoy (that as-yet-unannounced game, then “Starfield”), and see if daily episodes helps keep me from further expanding my pre-produced content gap, and perhaps even eat into it some. If that doesn’t do the trick, add back in some shows I’m already making. Finally, if that doesn’t work, maybe add even more daily shows in, which should certainly work towards cutting into the gap.

So let’s see what happens with 2028. If I have all of 2028 done for [Insert Game Here] videos in short order, then I’ll go back and start adding in additional shows. The point is that by the end of 2027, I want to be no more than a year ahead for YouTube content. At the rate I’m going, if I don’t make changes soon, I’ll be into the 2030’s for content by the end of 2027.
