Once more unto the breach?

So, once upon a time (2017-2020), I used to Livestream on Twitch, mostly playing a variety of different Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games. Which is to say, I played through a variety of different games, but mostly settled on “Lord of the Rings Online”, a game that I had been playing since 2008, if I remember properly. I befriended a variety of other LOTRO streamers, and had a lot of fun for the most part.

Well, until the company that develops LOTRO tossed me aside like week-old cabbage, but that’s fine. I didn’t need their support, just as they didn’t need mine. I simply moved on to play other games that I enjoyed, such as “Secret World Legends”, “Rift”, and even “World of Warcraft” (I keep bouncing off of that damn game, and I don’t know why.) here or there.

Anyway, now that I have my old laptop set back up for streaming again, I’m considering trying to play some of these free-to-play MMORPGs I used to play years ago. Actually, I’ll probably stick to the ones I have lifetime subs to, such as “Secret World Legends”, “Star Trek Online”, but “Lord of the Rings Online” most of all.

Why LOTRO? Especially after the stuff Standing Stone Games pulled years ago?

Well, it’s simple. I paid for that Lifetime sub back in 2007 or 2008, I can’t remember which, but it has been a very long time now. One would think I’ve gotten my money out of the game by now, and you could say that I have… But a Lifetime is a Lifetime, and if I want to play that game, I sure as hell deserve to continue playing it as the Lifer that I am.

… Which means if I want to play that game, and get the benefits of a paying subscriber, then I should be able to do so, even now. And if I want to stream that gameplay, then I should be able to do so, just like anyone else.

In the end, I always enjoyed LOTRO as a game. If I’m going to start playing MMORPGs again, then that seems like it would be a good enough place to start, even if I’m no fan of the company behind it. Actually, that seems like an even better reason to play the game again, really. Play for free, use up resources, and have fun without dropping another dime of money back in their coffers.

Bitter much? Yeah, I don’t forget slights. Ever. That’s Scormey for ya, just ask my wife! She’s put up with my dumb ass for years now!

Anyway, I’m still not sure what I’m going to do. I intend to reinstall a few different MMORPGs, and see how they run on my old PC, before making a final decision. But I expect LOTRO is the one most likely to play well on my rig, next to “Secret World Legends”, which I also may be streaming in the future. But we’ll see how it goes soon enough.

All to save up money for a new gaming rig, so I can eventually stream “Starfield”, “Avowed”, and other games at much better fidelity than I currently do over the Xbox. In short, the things I’ll do to put on a better “Starfield” livestream for y’all…
