So I’m pondering writing a small tabletop roleplaying game, a sci-fi adventure for solo play. It has aspects of science-fiction exploration, procedurally-developed settings, and cosmic horror. It is, as the cover image implies, heavily inspired by the probes sent out into cosmos by Humanity over the last 70+ years.
I am also leaning heavily on the “Lasers and Feelings” system to power this game because, well… why not? It just works, is a very easy system to learn and use, and it is free to use thanks to the creator-friendly license (CC-BY 4.0) it is published under. That leaves me free to focus more on the solo oracle tools, and the overarching game setting itself, rather than the system.
Now then, with L&F being a one-page TTRPG, you might think I’ll be able to knock out this game in short order, right? Well, not so much. My goal is to pack the game full of solo tools, so that one can sit down with the book and no preparation at all, and play an enjoyable solo adventure with just a series of dice rolls. That is going to be difficult, time consuming, and keep it out of your hands for a while at least.
So, why am I talking about this here? Because I’ll likely slow down on my blog posts here, while I work on this and another game I am in the early stages of development for (yes, sooper-seekret game coming!). I’ll be posting here with game news and commentary as I think it is necessary, but otherwise will be working on my games.
Just saying. Stay tuned.
