My Ugly Mug

So I’ve been looking for ways to be creative on my off-time recently, thus the return to livestreaming on Twitch. This is great to kill some time on weekend days, but I’m up most of the night on weekends, as well, and I’d like to be doing something then other than playing on my Xbox (although that is fun, too).

Unfortunately, my computer is old. I mean it is so old that I had to switch it over to Ubuntu Linux when support for Windows 10 ended, because it couldn’t be updated to Windows 11. But it still works for gaming… kind of, anyway… and it definitely works for streaming and video creation. OBS works just fine, as does my old camera and microphone.

Basically, it’ll work for streaming myself, but I wouldn’t trust it to stream me playing games on my laptop. So, what can I do?

Well, I could do TTRPG-based streams.

What I have in mind is this: If I can get “FaceRig” (the vtuber software I used to use while streaming five years ago) running under Linux, I could focus the laptop camera for working with that, then use my Logitech webcam to show whatever book I’m talking about. I could also use it for showing my dice rolls, if I decide to do a solo Actual-Play series. I’ve done that in audio form before, but I think it might go better if it were a video series on YouTube, to be honest.

In theory this could be a group Actual-Play, as well, but that would be a lot more difficult to manage on my old laptop. But it is something to consider.

Anyway, this all depends on if my laptop can even run “FaceRig” or some other Vtuber software, because trust me, no one wants to see my ugly mug on any video or Livestream. But I will continue to look into this situation, because I would really like to jump back into some creative endeavor on weekend nights, and really think this might be the most fun.

Or I could actually put in some work on my planned TTRPG, but that would require, y’know… effort.
