Gaming Vacation

Starting this coming weekend, I will be taking two weeks off from work. This is for a variety of reasons, but primarily to take the dogs on road trips to avoid fireworks due to Independence Day festivities. But unlike last year, where we took a six-day road trip through the western United States, our trips this year will be closer to home, mostly evening sojourns to the coast, mountains, and such. Anywhere they aren’t lighting off fireworks.

That leaves my days for gaming, and oh, do I plan on playing some games!

First of all, I have yet to beat “Avowed” (I know, I know), and I am planning to throw myself into that until the task is done! Unless I get caught up playing “Starfield”, instead. The unofficial DLC “Watchtower” has me hooked right now (I’m writing this in late May), and I expect I’ll be ready for another run through it sometime in June.

That all said, what about “Oblivion”? I have never played the original game, although I did own it (my copy would not load onto my computer, and Gamestop refused to replace it, which coincidentally would be one of the reasons I don’t buy from Gamestop anymore)… but I digress… The point is, it looks interesting, and I really should try it. Having two weeks off with the availability to play on my Xbox every single day would be a good time to try it out, you might think.

I think so, anyway. Except I have yet to beat “Avowed”, and I just can’t stop playing “Starfield”, or “Balatro” for that matter. Not to mention any number of other games I have on my Xbox to play, and believe me, I have a lot of them!

But what if we leave town for a day or two? I have been bugging My Lovely Bride™ to take another road trip this summer, and she’s not against the idea, as long as we don’t drive 12+ hours a day on average, for six straight days, “just because” (it was a bucket list item for me). I’ve been tossing around the idea of driving over to SW Wyoming (via Oregon and Idaho), with a short trip into northern Utah on the way back. We could do this in maybe three days, especially if we leave the pups at home (we have a great kennel where they have lots of fun). Especially if we go after the holiday, when the fireworks die down significantly.

So, how might this affect my gaming vacation? It won’t, because I still have my laptop, and plenty of games I can play via Steam loaded thereon. Of course, we also have our Nintendo Switches, and if the hotel internet is acceptable, there’s also the ability to play Xbox Game Pass games on the laptop over the cloud.

Yeah, I might do less gaming that way, but it would be nice to have some quality time with my sweetie for a few days… while we take turns playing “Balatro” on her Switch every evening.
