First of all, I was wrong.
In a post last week I stated that we could very well get news regarding “Starfield” at the Xbox Showcase 2025, which was held last Sunday, June 8th. I will admit that I was disappointed, and not a little surprised, to see announcements made for other Bethesda games at the Showcase, but no mention being made for “Starfield”.
That said, you don’t see me freaking out about it, either.
There are a large group of fans of “Starfield” who are very, very unhappy about the lack of news regarding this game at the Showcase. The usual “Starfield Haters” are joining in with these cries of dissent, and amplifying them with rumors that the game is dead, that Bethesda has abandoned it, etc. All in all, there isn’t a lot of good news going on around the internet about “Starfield” right now.
The Butthurt is real.
Like I said, though, I was also disappointed that Bethesda didn’t announce something about the game, or drop an update like they did last year. But at the same time, I’m not freaking out about it, either. Why?
It is entirely possible that Bethesda simply can’t announce anything right now, especially not at the Xbox Showcase.
Let me ask you this: What has been the most prevalent rumor regarding “Starfield” the last few months? Clearly, it is that Bethesda is getting ready to release the game for Playstation, and after last month’s bugfix update that added low graphics capabilities to the game, possibly a release for the Nintendo Switch 2. So with that in mind, if this rumor proves to be even somewhat true, would Microsoft have wanted Bethesda to make such an announcement at their Xbox Showcase event?
No, of course not. Obviously not. Are you kidding me?
Last year, Todd Howard said that he wished that they had not dropped the update they did at Xbox Showcase 2024, because it would have been better to hold it for the September release of “Shattered Space”, or at least closer to that release. It took a lot of the wind out of the game’s sails, and sales, if you want to get right down to it. So with that in mind, wouldn’t it be fair to say Bethesda might be more likely to hold updates for Q2 or so, to release them alongside a Q3 or Q4 DLC release?
So what exactly could Bethesda have announced at Xbox Showcase? The name and release date for the next expansion? Sure, assuming it has not been delayed, or is likely to be delayed. What if the next DLC isn’t coming until 2026 now? How would those overly-emotional “Starfield” fans, who are freaking out about the game’s future right now, have reacted to news that the next DLC is going to be at least three months later than they imagined?
Queue up video of cars being rolled over, police cruisers being burned, mass looting, etc. You get my point.
So here’s how it is, boys and girls: Bethesda is not announcing anything, because they either have nothing to announce right now, or their masters over at Microsoft won’t let them announce what they are working on quite yet. The timing just isn’t right. I wish it were, I would have loved to have gotten a big, splashy announcement from Bethesda this week, but that didn’t happen. It sucks, but at the same time, it isn’t the end of the world, nor of “Starfield”.
We are getting DLC-quality mods from Kinggath Creations, and other fine mod creators. We just got a major bugfix update from Bethesda a couple of weeks ago. The game has not been abandoned, as the Haters and “Fans” have been claiming all over the Internet, especially Reddit.
Bro… chill.
