So My Lovely Bride™ and I are planning to return to Faire this year, specifically the final day (June 29th, 2025) of the Oregon Renaissance Faire, in Canby, Oregon. It has been some time since we have been able to attend one of our local faires, as I keep having pesky things like open heart surgery, kidney surgery, and gall bladder surgery with a side-order of a heart attack. Always right around faire time, albeit the heart surgery happened during the 2020 COVID shut-down, so it really doesn’t count. I’m including it, though, to show the pattern of major health issues I keep having during Faire the past few years.
Anyway, like I said we’re finally getting to go back to our favorite Faire, and hopefully see all of our favorite performers, vendors, playtrons, and friends. I chose the final day of faire this year because that happens to fall at the start of our annual “Get the Hell out of town for the 4th of July”-vacation. I figure we can drop the pups off at their favorite kennel the night before, attend the faire on Sunday, then pick up the pups when we go home. The dogs get a spa day at the kennel, we get a break, and a nice visit with people we adore.
Plus I get to spend money. Maybe not as much as we have in years past (I spent $2000 in one weekend at Canterbury Renaissance Faire a decade ago, and did the same almost at ORF a few years back), but still… gotta support our vendor friends, and tip all of the performers!
Now then, I doubt we’ll be dressing up in garb this year. As much as I enjoy it, I want to keep My Lovely Bride™ in a good mood, and she’s not a huge fan of dressing up for Faire any longer. It is what it is. Personally, I think we should start going as a Wizard and Witch pair, as robes are easy and comfortable, regardless of the weather, and we have the hats and staves. Plus, footwear isn’t so much of an issue when you’re wearing robes and your shoes are mostly hidden. I’d still wear my boots, because I have awesome boots, but if my sweetie prefers to wear sneakers, who cares?
Hmmm… Maybe I can talk her into this plan? We’ll see.
Regardless, I’m getting excited for Faire now! Yes, I may only be able to go to one event this year (trying to keep the credit card debt low), but it will be a good one!
