Returning to my Solo groove!

So, as you probably know by now, I’ve been indulging in some Solo Tabletop Roleplaying the last few months, and recording these sessions for the actual-play podcast, “Ronin Roleplaying”. But what you may not know is that I took roughly the last two months off, to enjoy the holidays and give myself a bit of a break to recharge my batteries. I had just finished up recording 14 months worth of podcasts in just a couple of months, after all!

Anyway, I was planning to wait until about… well, now… to return to solo roleplaying. I didn’t quite make it that long, actually. To be honest, I barely made it past Christmas, before I broke out the books and dice, and started my way into Season 2 of RR.

So, how has it been going? Well, as of this writing, I’ve knocked out the first three months worth of shows for Season 2, which starts in 2022. For that quarter I played the excellent “D13 RPG”, by Lester Smith. It was perhaps the most fun I’ve ever had roleplaying. Over the last 40+ years in the hobby.

Yes, “D13 RPG” is just that good, and the story that played out was just that much fun.

It helped that I was using the excellent “GameMaster’s Apprentice” as my oracle tool, specifically the “Weird Horror” deck Nathan at Larcenous Designs sent me a while ago. It may be better suited to Lovecraftian Horror, but it worked just fine with D13, as well. In fact, it might just have colored the sessions a bit creepier than it otherwise would have been, which worked out nicely.

Next, I’m planning to move on to “Ironsworn”, for the 2nd quarter of shows in 2022.

Yes, I’ll be taking a break from the external oracle books and decks, and just running “Ironsworn” (and perhaps it’s companion book, “Delve”) as written, straight from the book. It was designed with solo play in mind, so why would I use other tools, when I don’t need to?

Anyway, I’m trying to slow down my solo roleplaying binges some, down to only recording one game a month… but that still works out to three months worth of podcast episodes being created every month! So at that pace, if I maintain it, I will be able to pre-record and program three more years worth of “Ronin Roleplaying”, seasons 2, 3, and 4, in 2021 alone! At that rate, I may end up retiring from creating content for RR at the end of 2023, after recording 10 seasons of the show.

Season 10 wouldn’t come out until 2030, by the way.

Yes, I have a problem.

Oh, by the way… I’ve already recorded as many shows for “Ronin Roleplaying”, in just a few months, as we did for “Knights of the Tabletop” in the better part of a year. Just saying.
