Content is Killing Me!

I have a problem.

You see, I go through these cycles. Sometimes I get into moods where I can produce serious amounts of content, be it videos, podcasts, blog entries, whatever.

But then there are the Other Times. You know, when I’m sitting here, or a beautiful Saturday morning, looking at my upcoming posts for the website (and YouTube, for that matter), and find nothing there.

Nothing. As in, I’m bereft of content, due to having been really busy at work, really lazy at home, or otherwise occupied to the point where I ran out of premade content.

Like right now.

So, here I am, trying to come up with blog posts for this week… and coming up with nothing, because I have already covered everything worth talking about. Now here we are, with me writing literally anything that comes to mind on this beautiful Saturday morning, and you being unfortunate enough to end up reading it.

No wonder my bounce rate on this website is so damn high.

But I digress.

What I’m here to talk about today is that cycle I mentioned before. As you might have guessed, I’m at the low end of that damn cycle, being out of blog posts, running short on videos waiting to publish on YouTube, and week-to-week on most of my podcasts.

Why? Because I overextended myself. Again.

  • Two blogs a week
  • Three podcasts a week
  • Two livestreams each weekend
  • Rebroadcasts of those livestreams on one YouTube channel
  • Posting each of the previous weekends Twitch Clips on that YT channel
  • Two video rants each week on another YouTube channel
  • One video a week on my dogs’ YouTube channel. Yes, our dogs have their own YT channel.

Plus work, eating, sleep, and running/playing tabletop roleplaying games one or two Sundays a month on average. Why?

Again… WHY?!

Because I’m a slave to the top end of this cycle. You see, it works like this: I make a reasonable amount of content, then hit a “good week”, and start producing extra content, which makes me want to make more content for a while, expanding what I do every week. But the next thing I know, I’m down to the low end of the cycle, and suddenly feel extremely swamped.

Like I do now.

So, now what do I do?

Well, it’s simple: I cut back to what I originally planned. Which is to say, drop one video. Just one.

You know those Rants I’ve been doing lately? I intended to only do one a week, but started doing enough to do two from the get-go, then never stopped. Well, no more! You only get one video a week now!… not that you guys watch them, anyway.

Then there is my dogs’ video channel. That will come out when we feel like it. No one watches those videos anyway, except for my mother-in-law and a couple of friends, so it’s not like anyone will freak out if we skip a week here or there.

Hey, but what about those livestreams? Maybe if I cut back on the amount of time I livestreamed each weekend, I’d have time to make Rant videos, or edit together a Dog vid here or there, let alone put together some extra podcasts or write a blog post or two in advance?

Yeah, but those livestreams actually have an audience.

Then again, we all know I have a problem with producing content on a regular basis. Which is to say, I make a schedule, and I stick to it, regardless of how it affects me personally. So what I’m saying is that the next few weeks/months/whatever will be a bit of a “surprise”. Will there be blogs on Tuesdays and Thursdays? Will there be regular content on the YouTube channels? Will I livestream both days every weekend?

Just wait and see…
