Steamy Chibis and other Nonsense

So I’ve had a bit of an issue with games lately.

It seems that certain games don’t like to play on my laptop, at least not more than once. The Elder Scrolls Online, Neverwinter, and others sometimes just won’t launch after having worked just fine on an initial play of the game. This is rather frustrating, especially when I’d love to Livestream said games on Twitch, but can’t, due to this… bug, I guess?

Anyway, this leaves me in a bit of a conundrum. I have already planned for this Saturday morning’s game – Path of Exile – which I have already installed and is ready to go (at least I hope so). But I would like to return to playing certain games like Neverwinter and Elder Scrolls Online, and to add games like Maplestory 2 into my potential offerings on my stream. But while Maplestory 2 hasn’t proven to be an issue, as I haven’t even installed it yet, I would have to see it become an issue after loading it for the first time. So I really need to figure out what is causing this issue.

It isn’t the Arc loader (used for Neverwinter and other Perfect World games), because I have also seen this issue come up with ESO over Steam. My guess is that there is a problem with either Windows 10, my graphics driver, or something else I can’t determine. I have tried searching online for a solution, with no luck, so I’m at a loss. The games in question load up fine the first time you install them, then on subsequent launchings, the game says it is running per Windows, but nothing happens, you just see the desktop. Attempting to start the game again throws an error, saying the game is already playing… but if it is, I can’t see or hear it. If you look up the program in the Task Manager and close it there, trying to launch it yet again results in the same issue – It simply doesn’t do anything.

Weird, no?

So, in other news, I’m thinking of going back to my Razer Kraken 7.1 headset again. Even if I don’t use the microphone, which isn’t nearly as good as my main podcasting mic, the headset produces my better sound than my regular stereo headset. 7.1 is better than 2.0 any day! But that means reinstalling the Razer Synapse software and drivers, which has screwed up my laptop in the past. Anyway, that might be happening soonish, I’m not really sure. I just don’t want to leave that really awesome headset unused, when it sounds just so damn good, and might allow me to livestream with Tenknife again!

Also, I wanted to drop a bit of news about the website. First of all, you may have noticed the “Merch?” link in the menu? If not, yes, I have a Merch section now. While I know I have virtually no presence online, and almost no followers or fans, I wanted to start making fun shirts and such, just in case they might catch on. So it isn’t specifically Scormey Merch just yet, I wouldn’t mind it heading that way eventually.

You may also note a distinct drop in updates here, starting in December. Why? Because I will only be posting clips and blogs when I feel like it, although the Podcast will continue to come out once a week. Unless I decide to start a second podcast at the start of next year, in which case… MOAR PODCAST! But my point here is that you shouldn’t expect three clips a week anymore. I’ll post them when they are worthy of being posted.

Finally, speaking of the Pixels & Dice Podcast, this week’s show might ruffle a few feathers. So, if you a bit… fragile, let’s say… you might want to seek a safe space before downloading and giving it a listen. Just saying.
