A Scormey in Wolf’s Clothing

I decided to change things up starting this last weekend, in regards to my Livestreaming. Specifically, I have started using FaceRig, which is motion-capture software that maps out your face through your webcam, then applies those facial movements to a 3D animated character. This is then broadcast to OBS, rather than your normal webcam feed, making for a rather interesting streaming experience.

I have tried multiple characters thus far, but like using one particular Wolf the best, at least at this point. I may change up a few things, customize the character to make it “my own”, but otherwise I may have just found a primary character for the stream, especially if I’m playing a Worgen in “World of Warcraft”.

If they had something roughly akin to a Hobbit character, I’d use that and nothing else, but alas, they do not. At least, not yet.

Anyway, why did I make this change? Well, for a couple of reasons. First of all, I’ve been looking at my livestreams of late, and feel like I’m not presenting myself in a way that makes me happy. I’m a big, fat, bloated mess, and would prefer to not present that image onto the world at large anymore. While I’m working on reducing my weight, the odds are I won’t make much of a difference anytime soon. Thus, I’ve embraced technology to solve the problem right away!

Secondly, and really the main reason I went looking for this option in the first place, is because of Tenknife, also known as Mrs. Scormey. As I’ve mentioned on stream many times, Ten is interested in livestreaming, but doesn’t want to do a face reveal, yet felt that not showing her face would adversely affect her stream. So I decided to see if there was a way she could have a ‘proxy’ animated face on her stream, as opposed to her own image, because surely there had to be someone who had made such an option possible. Enter FaceRig, the perfect solution, at least from what we’ve seen.

So, I’m wondering what y’all think of the change? Is it good, bad, or are you indifferent to the new setup? Please leave a comment below with your thoughts. Thanks!
